Video Door Access Control

This project involved the installation of a video door access control and communication system for a school district, specifically serving an entrance used by students arriving late to school.

The system was designed to provide school personnel with a simple and secure way to visually identify visitors, communicate with them, and remotely grant building access when appropriate.

The installation utilized a Grandstream video phone integrated with the school’s existing PBX telephone system, allowing staff to operate the access system through familiar telephone equipment rather than requiring a separate security interface.

When the entrance is activated, the system automatically places a call to a designated PBX extension. Once answered, live video and two-way audio allow the operator to identify and communicate with the person at the entrance.

After determining the purpose of the visit, authorized personnel can remotely release the door by pressing a designated key on the phone’s keypad, providing controlled access without requiring staff to physically travel to the entrance.
