This project involved diagnosing and repairing a residential air-conditioning system that was not operating properly. Electrical testing and refrigeration gauge readings identified high superheat, low subcooling, and a failing capacitor.
Further examination found no apparent refrigerant leaks. The system was charged with two pounds of R-410A refrigerant, and the failing capacitor was replaced. The evaporator and condenser coils and outdoor condenser fan were also cleaned to improve airflow and heat transfer.
The home’s existing analog thermostat was replaced with a modern programmable/smart thermostat, providing automated temperature control and scheduling while offering the potential for improved energy efficiency and reduced HVAC runtime.
Following the repairs, cleaning, refrigerant adjustment, and thermostat upgrade, the system was tested and restored to proper working condition.
